The new Lambton Golf Club

Sept 3, 2016

Played with new friends, Jill & Carolyn, which proved golfers who hit the ball straight every shot, can play with people that don’t. Chris and I had lots of fun playing with these ladies. If I was that consistent consistent, I could be a contenders.

Lambton GC in the heart of Toronto is one of my favorite course and has been my home for 40+ years as a member. This course was completely modernized and lengthened in 2011 by Rees Jones. Score Magazine really needs to properly evaluate the new version on Lambton, as I believe this course should now be at least in the top 50 in Canada, not as it is currently just out of the Top 100.

It is now a great layout, with no “bad holes” (my pet peeve) and has the best practice facility among the Toronto private clubs.

It survived the 2016 drought with flying colours and now is extremely green and the greens are running fast after aeration last week.

Lambton 6th Par 5 2nd shot. Very few go for green in 2 with raised green beyond the river and over big traps.

I prefer to play the hybrid Scarlett-Silver at 6,371 yds.

Lambton 7th Par 5 from Scarlett tees. A great par 5 along the Humber River

Lambton 8th Par 3 - at 160-180 yrds over lots of crap, one of toughest and most beautiful par 3s around. I par this only once in a while. Hit an extra club almost always.

Lambton 9th par 4 - the approach. This is the 3rd of 3 holes in Lambton's version of Amen Corner. The 9th had the highest scoring average when the Lambton co-hosted the Canadian Amateur in 2015. Good golfers agree that the approach shot here, is one of the toughest shots to make.

Lambton 14th part 4 is a classic par 4 at 380-420 yrds with a raised green that penalizes you if you do not hit this green. The Black Creek is about 260 off the tee, so you will always have a minimum of 140 in on your approach.

Lambton 15th approach. This is a short par 5, the Canadian Amateurs played it as a par 4. To bomb your drive to hit in 2 is a high risk small landing area.

Lambton 16th par 4 from Tee. This is my favourite and and many would call it the signature hole. If you hit to left you can be blocked by trees and on right its important to fly the bunkers to have a 150ish into the green at the top of the hill. 1.5 extra club on approach.

Lambton 17th par 3
Lambton 17th par 3 playing 190-210 often into the wide from the west. Aim left edge of green and it will roll to the centre. There is nothing but “crap” down the right side. Don’t go there.

Lambton 18th par 4, approach. This is a great finishing hole. At 380-420 yrds it requires a solid straight drive and significant approach shot to a raised green with few good bounces if you are short or wide.
